Lost ruins publisher5/30/2023 ![]() The fundamental fault I found regarding these aspects begins with when first beginning. Still, unfortunately, none of these factors left a particularly persisting impact. The story and characterization of Lost Ruins are certainly serviceable as each of the characters has their fair share of entertaining banter. Then after some more preambles, you end up exploring the castle while encountering a plethora of dangerous monsters and some other not-so-friendly faces. Looking for a pleasing sense of expansion? Despite the vastly different themes, Lost Ruins of Arnak offers up the same sense of ‘getting better’ that Food Chain Magnate does. The Heroine ultimately chooses to steel herself and face the dangers ahead to find answers regarding her puzzling predicament. ![]() TRY THIS IF YOU LIKED Food Chain Magnate… Mín and Elwen are a design pair to keep an eye on. It plays fast, looks good, and challenges at any player count. I think we’ve found what we were looking for.Ĭhristopher John Eggett PLAY IT? MUST-PLAYĪ thoroughly impressive set of mechanics come together seamlessly to provide an extremely pleasing sense of exploration. ![]() Lost Ruins of Arnak is elegant, inventive, and extraordinary for how confidently it does everything as well as it does. It’s a surprisingly elegant system for ramping up your resources towards the end of the game.Īs there are only five rounds everything gets moving quickly, and you’re not going to be able to score everything – you’ve just got to do the best your hand can offer. The market for this switches proportions from less useful ‘tools’ to powerful ‘artefacts’ as the staff designating which round you’re in moves right. Managing your options is the way to cut a path to victory through this dangerous jungle, as is buying in more powerful cards. The threat here lies in leaving the guardians on the loose at the end of the round, if you’re removing an explorer from an area with a guardian, you draw a fear card which will dilute your deck and hand down in the future. These are all lovingly created, and ‘defeating’ them is simply paying the cost on the card and then tucking them in your backpack. When you get to exploring deeper in the jungle, you’ll take some bonus token and awake a guardian, randomly slid off the stack of guardian tokens. The main thing you’ll be jostling for is position on the board, where there are a limited number of worker spaces. A round only comes to an end when all players pass, meaning you’re usually going to get to use everything in your hand. On a player’s turn they can take one major action (explore an area on the board for example) and as many free actions as they like (cards offer resources for free when played), and then play passes to the next player around the table. ![]() The game uses worker placement as its core mechanic, and then splits out nearly all of the resource generation and actions into the small deck of cards which players will be drawing a hand from each turn. Join us for a bit of jungle exploration in Lost Ruins of Arnak. Instead, we have one of the best games of the year appearing just as 2020 is drawing to a close. When a game takes a bit of deck building and integrates worker placement mechanics, you might think there’s trouble ahead. Mash-ups aren’t, as the name suggests, always going to be neat.

Titanfall 2 price5/30/2023 ![]() It's extremely fast-paced and highly lethal, with grappling hooks, speed boosts and phase-shift abilities raising the skill ceiling of movement. It is as if Respawn laid out Titanfall on a table, took it to pieces, and figured out how to create a new game with the same essential parts. All of the same ideas return, from freerunning pilots to titan calldowns to NPC minions and limited-use power spikes, but each has been rethought. If Titanfall 2's singleplayer surprises with quality, then multiplayer surprises with the amount that has changed since the first game. It might not stick with you long after the credits roll, but the strength of the campaign as a whole is enough to make me want to spend more time in this world, to find out what other unexpected ingredients Respawn can introduce to the formula of man plus robot plus guns plus parkour. The central dynamic between protagonist Jack Cooper and the titan he is unexpectedly bonded with, BT, is perfectly enjoyable-The Iron Giant with killstreaks. The story is above-average triple-A action fare, punching above its weight in terms of spectacle and managing to fit in a few decent jokes amidst the battle-talk. ![]() ![]() If you're building a new PC, also take a look at our mid-range (opens in new tab) and high-end (opens in new tab) build guides. Blazkowicz, the Predator, and Faith from Mirror's Edge. On the hardest difficulty setting you can't actually take very much fire before you die: it's fundamentally a game about not taking any fire at all. In a sense, Titanfall 2 uses cloaking and your freedom of movement to stand in for the bullet-sponge healthbar usually granted to first person shooter protagonists. You've also got a short-duration cloaking device, gated by a cooldown, that allows you to reposition in dangerous situations without needing to stop and hide. Shooting is a form of punctuation in Titanfall-it's through movement that you really express yourself, to the point that resorting to boring old running on the ground can feel like failure. This is coupled with the series' brilliant traversal system, which spans double jumps, wall-runs, slides, and powerful melee strikes. These feel and sound phenomenal-Respawn's legacy as Infinity Ward, the people who invented Call of Duty, is sensed in the simple kinetic pleasure of putting a target in your red-dot sight and pulling the trigger. There's loads of weapons to try, from SMG staples to powerful shotgun pistols to gravity grenades and remote satchel charges. Titanfall 2 is built on rock-solid foundations. Avast allow logitech alert commander5/30/2023 While Logitech Alert can display all six feeds simultaneously in a grid (which, by the way, is slick as heck), I'd like to see (or haven't found) the option to simply toggle between all six views in order, continuously. ![]() Many security systems have a way for the system to toggle between each camera in rotation in full screen. I did find a few features I would have liked to have seen, and so here's a short wish list for future versions. I've been using the system for a few weeks now, and with the exception of the remote monitoring functions mentioned above, I'm quite impressed. I haven't had time to reset everything to see if it comes back online, but remote monitoring is definitely a bit more troublesome than local monitoring, which is rock-solid. Update: the Web interface has stopped showing one of the cameras claiming "Error getting camera settings", while the Commander PC-based interface works fine. In any case, it's a serious flaw and Logitech needs to step up and fix it before this solution can be a truly credible remote monitoring solution. A more cynical view is they're limiting the time the connection is live to save overhead at their data center. Presumably, Logitech thinks you'll get an email alert, and then want to see what's happening. You can check in and see what's going on, but you can't just keep an eye on things. This completely defeats the idea of having a browser window at work open all the time to see what's going on at home, or a Nexus 7 sitting on the night table to monitor the baby. You're actually presented with a display arrow that invites you to tap it to start monitoring again. What I mean by this is you start monitoring, and after 5-10 minutes, the monitoring stops. Logitech claims the cameras have built-in surge suppression, but we had one power failure recently which corrupted one of the SD cards: Here in Florida, we have many power fluctuations, and so everything (including our crock pot) has a UPS between it and the the power grid. ![]() While we're on the topic of installation, I need to point out that you can't plug the cameras or the central hub into a UPS. You might not need an electrician, but keep in mind that if you're touching the circuit breaker box, some ordinances require licensing to do the work (and, of course, if you don't know what you're doing, you could be in for a nasty shock). Since I needed everything installed to code, I used the same licensed electrician we used to run our power infrastructure and GigE to install the Alert system. The HomePlug system is a security win as well, since the wire that extends outside the house to the camera isn't on the internal LAN, it's effectively firewalled into the camera's own private HomePlug network. Since I operate my office from home, that was a necessity. As a result, we've got a power infrastructure normally more suited to a small data center than a house. We pretty much gutted it and rebuilt it to my geeky specifications. As I've mentioned before, when we bought this house, it was a fixer-upper in the worst way. That's why I had to involve an electrician. While this might be easy installation, having the camera's power right under the camera kind of defeats the whole security concept. In fact, on the instructions, Logitech has a somewhat silly illustration showing a cable running from the outside camera, down the side of a building, to an exposed power socket. ![]() Logitech recommends a similar procedure for outside cameras. Certainly for an indoor camera, all you do is plug a cable into the camera and into the power brick, and plug that into the wall. Installation is, in theory, quite simple. At about 2GB a week, a relatively small amount of storage can store pretty nearly a year without blinking. The Commander software allows you to set a maximum amount of storage, and then deletes older recordings.
